What it is

A concentrated magnesium chloride solution from the Zechstein source in Groningen, the Netherlands. Despite the name it isn't an oil: the slippery texture comes from the salt concentration, not from any fat. No added fragrance or preservatives.

Why some owners use it

Magnesium is an essential mineral, and intake comes first and foremost from the diet. Magnesium oil is applied directly to the skin, which makes it part of the grooming routine for horses in intensive work, without going through the digestive system.

What we can't claim

Whether magnesium is absorbed through the skin is still debated. The available studies are few and small, and none of them are in horses. We sell this for what it is: an external application that many owners value, and one that does not replace dietary intake if your horse is genuinely short of magnesium. If that's the case, speak to your vet.x

How to use it

Apply to clean, intact skin — the legs or the neck, for example — and massage in. A mild tingling is common during the first few applications and usually fades with use. Do not apply to wounds, irritated skin or freshly clipped areas. Rinse with clean water if irritation occurs.
